CRASH is a vibrant and energizing ensemble that embodies the concept of music in motion.
Performing the visual percussion works of Mary Ellen Childs, the ensemble's bold, visceral
style combines the power of drumming with an elegant sensibility. The union of sight and
sound creates an impact that audiences have responded to with tremendous enthusiasm.
The four members of CRASH have musical and movement backgrounds that range from marching bands to new music to jazz and rock bands, orchestral work, tai chi, dance. Many are recognized teachers, authors, composers, and improvisors. Heather Barringer (Performer) graduated from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls with a B.Mus.Ed. in 1987 and studied at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory from 1988-90. In addition to performing with CRASH, she is percussionist and Artistic Co-Director of the new music group, Zeitgeist, and has worked with many Twin Cities organizations, including Nautilus Music Theater Ensemble, The Dale Warland Singers, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and Ten Thousand Things Theater. Erik Barsness (Performer) graduated in June 2005 with a masters degree from The Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden. He received a Fulbright Scholarship from the United States's Department of Education in 2002 for these studies. Erik has performed throughout Northern Europe and Russia both as a soloist and in various ensembles. In the United States he has performed at the 2001 and 2005 Festival Dancing in Your Head (Walker Art Center/Headwaters Music), the Weissman Art Gallery (Minneapolis, MN), Walleye Art Gallery (Chicago, IL), Franconia Sculpture Park (Franconia, MN) and Yale University (New Haven, CT). Erik maintains a private teaching studio in the Twin Cities, MN. Peter O'Gorman (Performer) is a composer, drummer/percussionist, author and teacher. He creates pieces that are emotional, physical, visceral, cerebral, and kinetic. His compositions have been performed by Steven Schick and the Bang on a Can All-Stars, Amy Knoles of the California Ear Unit, New York percussion quartet Ethos, Joe Chvala and the Flying Foot Forum, and numerous other performers throughout the U.S. and abroad. Peter has performed nationally and internationally both as a soloist and an ensemble member with a multitude of vary diverse musical groups. He has worked with such luminary composers as: Henry Brant, Irwin Bazalon, Mary Ellen Childs, William Kraft, Libby Larsen, Frederic Rzewski, John Zorn, and many others. Peter is the author of the comprehensive drumset method series, Drum Sessions. This series has received critical praise from Modern Drummer, Percussive Notes, and several of the world's top drummers. Peter is also the former president of the Minnesota Chapter of the Percussive Arts Society. Eric Sundeen (Performer) graduated from St. Cloud State University with a Bachelors of Music in percussion performance. He has extensive experience in marching bands, drumlines, and drum and bugle corps. He has performed with the Minnesota Brass and the Madison Scouts Drum & Bugle Corps, and was the frontline instructor with the Minnesota Brass. His high school teaching experience includes serving as the Assistant Director for the Crow River Drumline Association and the Percussion Coordinator at Henry Sibley High School, Eden Prairie High School and Grand Rapids High School. He has taught at the collegiate levels as a Professor of Percussion at Crown College, and currently as an adjunct professor at Bemidji State University where he directs the Percussion Ensemble. |
